    Putting you back in motion

Your flexibility and range of motion are essential to moving freely and comfortably. Mobility is often overlooked, but it plays an important role not only in athletic performance, but in reducing our risk of injury and improving our quality of everyday life.

Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretching and mobility is a stretching technique that can improve your range of motion, and is especially helpful for people regaining their range of motion after injury or surgery. It’s also designed to help improve postural alignment by correcting muscle imbalances within your body. These treatments place a focus on the activation and stretching of the muscles needed to help improve your flexibility, mobility, and overall joint stability.

Each treatment plan will focus on either the upper or lower body, depending on your goals, problem areas and assessment results. These treatments are a much more active approach to treating tight, stiff muscles, and are very different from your typical massage.

PNF and mobility treatments are suitable for all sorts of people, from athletes looking to improve overall mobility and prevent injury to office workers and students looking to improve their posture from sitting at a desk all day. These treatments are created differently for each individual based on their specific needs and goals.

    What Is PNF stretching?

PNF stretching and mobility is a form of therapist-assisted stretching that involves a series of muscle contractions followed immediately by a deep, intense stretch. This process of repeated contraction followed by relaxation and stretching your muscles helps to improve flexibility and gain a greater range of motion.

PNF and mobility treatments are designed to stretch and strengthen muscles, but if you have a pre-existing musculoskeletal condition or acute injury, then these treatments might not be suitable for you at this time. Please let us know of any condition or injury you may have before your treatment.

    Frequently asked questions

Your therapist will spend the first half of your appointment conducting a postural and range of motion assessment, as well as muscle endurance testing to identify the muscle groups that are short and/or weak. Your therapist will use this information to create a treatment plan that’s tailored to your exact needs. The assessment results will also provide a baseline that we can refer to throughout your treatment to measure your improvements.

The second half of your appointment will involve education around your treatment plan and an introduction to PNF stretching.

We recommend that you wear loose fitting or stretchy clothing to your appointment. You’ll remain dressed throughout the entire session — there’s no need to remove any clothing for PNF stretching and mobility treatments.
