Everyone’s feet are different. Some are wide, some have high arches and some people have feet that aren’t the same size or shape. No matter how your feet are structured, orthotics are a great way to help keep your feet, connective tissues, lower back and ligaments healthy for life. Custom orthotics are specially-made shoe inserts constructed from a casting of your foot that are perfectly designed for your feet. They can provide relief for a wide variety of conditions. How do custom orthotics help? Your feet play an integral role in your day-to-day life and overall health. Many conditions can be caused by problems with your feet. Ailments can be aggravated if you have common foot abnormalities such as an over-exaggerated arch or “flat feet” when the arches of your feet are flattened. Most off-the-shelf orthotics just cushion your feet and provide relief for certain symptoms, but a one-size-fits-all insert isn’t going to help with structural or biomechanical problems. Customised orthotics are specifically designed to be an effective remedy for common foot conditions and pain while providing effective therapeutic relief from your issues in the long run. Some of the goals your therapist may have for orthotic treatment include: Correcting foot deformities Providing support to the ankle Reducing the risks for further injuries Helping the foot or ankle function better Frequently asked questions What kinds of conditions can orthotics help? Arthritis Flat feet Plantar fasciitis Heel or bone spurs Fallen arches Bunions and hammertoes Tendonitis Back pain Knee pain Diabetes Overall comfort Are there different types of orthotics? Orthotics can be customised and made using a variety of different materials, from rigid material such as carbon fibre or plastic, to more flexible or cushioning material. There are several different types of orthotics based on their use and function, such as those used for sports or for general day to day use. Does my insurance cover orthotics? Many insurance companies cover the cost of custom-made orthotics (up to a specified amount). It’s important to note that you should always consult with your insurer whether custom orthotics are covered, as it can differ from policy to policy. **Please note: direct billing is not available for this service — custom orthotics can only be claimed by the patient. What is the process for purchasing custom orthotics? First, a 30-minute assessment is booked with our registered physiotherapist to determine which orthotic is right for you based on your condition, use, pain level, and other factors. Once this is determined, our physiotherapist will complete a foam casting of your feet. The casting is then sent to the lab to create your customised moulds. Generally, the process may take anywhere from 2–3 weeks to receive the custom orthotic. After you purchase your orthotics, we’ll waive the fee for your 30-minute assessment! If you choose not to purchase orthotics with us then the fee for the 30-minute assessment is $75. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required upon purchase with the remaining balance paid upon delivery. An invoice will be provided for insurance purposes after your order is paid in full. Custom orthotics range in price based on the type of orthotic and any added upgrades. Typically, custom-made orthotics range from $500 to $600 + tax. Book your custom fitting today. Book online now
