Ottawa sports physiotherapy

Achieve your peak performance

People of all ages and abilities can enjoy the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle by participating in sports. But with any physical activity, there can be a risk of injury. Depending on your sport of choice, you could be putting significant stress on your muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments and bones.

Of course contact sports have a risk of injury, but even non-contact sports can see unintended contact or collision with others. With any activity that involves jumping, running, pivoting or quick changes in direction, there’s always going to be an injury risk.

While injuries will always be possible, there are things we can do to minimise the risk and severity. Whether you’ve experienced an injury or want to stay on top of your game, sports physiotherapy is the key to strong performance, and healing or preventing injuries for both elite and recreational athletes.

What is a sports injury?

Sports injuries can occur due to either acute, sudden trauma (like an accidental collision or twisting a knee or ankle) or develop over time through overuse and inadequate recovery of muscles or joints from physical activity.

Depending on the type and severity of your sports injury, there can be a wide range of symptoms and complications. Some of the most common sports injuries our team of licensed physiotherapists can treat include:

  • Shoulder separation and rotator cuff injuries
  • Running injuries like shin splints
  • Contusions, sprains and strains
  • Fractures and dislocations
  • Heel and foot pain
  • Swollen muscles
  • Tennis elbow
