Nutrigenomix at Elysian Wellness Centre

When it comes to nutrition, a one-size-fits-all approach really doesn’t fit all. We each respond differently to foods, carbohydrates, fats, protein, vitamins, dietary habits and exercise. Find out what works best for you based on your genes, not food trends.

Personalized Nutrition to Optimize Your Health

Lifestyle choices have a big impact on health risks.

Eat according to your genes with genetic testing for personalized nutrition through an exciting new service called Nutrigenomix. Nutrigenomix uses genomic technologies and genetic information to address issues important to nutrition and health, as well as performance, fertility and other outcomes.

With personalized nutrition, you can look beyond recommended daily intakes to optimize your health, weight and help prevent lifestyle-related chronic diseases.

Your Lifestyle, Goals, and Food Preferences May Change, But Your Genes Stay the Same

Instead of focusing on healthy diets, ever-changing fads, and superfoods, make the changes that most affect your health and weight. Knowing your key health risk factors based on your genes can help you focus on the changes that will have the most impact. You’ll eat smarter, knowing what works for your genetic makeup and avoiding trends and advice that don’t work for you.

How Does Nutrigenomix Work?

Our trained Registered Dietitian will take a sample of your saliva for testing. We will then test 45 genetic markers to get a clear picture of your genetic makeup. Once the results are in, our Registered Dietitian will review the results and contact you for a follow-up session to create a customized plan. The entire process should take between 2-4 weeks.

Your Nutrigenomix results will always be relevant to your health and are an investment in chronic disease prevention, weight management, and optimal health. As new discoveries in Nutrigenomix are made, panels with additional information could become available without re-testing so you’ll always get practical recommendations focused on your key risks, food tolerances and tendencies.

Disclaimer: We take the security of your personal health information seriously. Your DNA kit is marked with a unique barcode, used as the identifier for your sample. Only our Registered Dietitian will be able to link your kit’s barcode to your personal information. All genetic data is sent through a secure 256-bit encryption server. Samples are stored in a secure, controlled-access facility and labelled only with your unique barcode.

Experience Peak Athletic
Performance with Nutrigenomix

Genetic differences are known to impact absorption, metabolism, uptake, utilization and excretion of nutrients and food bioactives, which ultimately affects a number of metabolic pathways.

Therefore, the sports test is designed to provide personalized nutrition and performance-related recommendations that will help athletes of all levels boost physical and mental performance while optimizing body composition. Many dietary patterns, supplement strategies, and nutrient imbalances can directly impact exercise capacity and performance, which are the focus of the sport test.

Another focus is that people can’t seem to agree on what workout is the best, and for a good reason. Just as our bodies don’t all respond the same way to certain foods, the same rule applies to exercise. Some people who exercise with the goal of losing body fat may respond to endurance cardio while others simply do not. Find out how your genes affect your workout and make the most out of your time.

What Nutrigenomix Can Help you Discover

Specific Risk Factors for Chronic Disease

Knowing your risk factors for chronic disease, including heart disease and diabetes, can help tailor an effective prevention plan. You’ve probably heard that you should limit saturated fat and salt and include Omega-3 fats for a heart-healthy diet. Nutrigenomix adjusts advice to your genetic tolerances and looks at added factors, from caffeine to whole grain intake.

Ability to Lose Weight and Keep it Off

When it comes to weight loss, our genes (not diet trends) determine what works best. Some people have great results with a high protein diet, while others won’t. Genetics play a role in food preferences, cravings, and the amount of calorie restriction needed to succeed. Combining this knowledge with your personal risk factors ensures a dietary plan that not only promotes effective weight loss but supports your long-term health.

Sports Test

This test is designed to provide nutrition and performance-related recommendations that will help athletes of all levels boost physical and mental performance and optimize body composition.  Many dietary patterns and nutrient imbalances can directly impact exercise capacity and performance, which are the focus of the sport test.

Nutrient Metabolism & Food Intolerances

Are you prone to vitamin or mineral deficiencies? Are you likely to have issues with dairy or gluten? Instead of waiting until you have a problem to be tested, find out what tendencies are built into your DNA.

Response to Exercise

People can’t seem to agree on what workout is the best… and for a good reason. Our bodies don’t all respond the same way to exercise. Some people using exercise to lose body fat respond to endurance cardio while others do not. Find out how your genes affect your workout and make the most out of your time.

Fertility Test

It is designed to provide nutrition recommendations that will help couples trying to conceive to optimize their fertile potential and maintain viability, likelihood of conception, and fetal development.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Nutrigenomix testing done?

Our Registered Dietitian will perform this simple genetic test to determine the best foods for your body. You are asked not to eat or drink anything (water is allowed) for 1 hour before your testing. The dietitian will then take a simple saliva swab from multiple areas inside the mouth, which will then be sent off to the Nutrigenomix lab to test 45 genetic markers, which will produce the report regarding your nutritional needs.

How long does Nutrigenomix testing take?

Anywhere between 2-3 minutes only!

Can I get testing done without a healthcare professional?

Unfortunately not. Nutrigenomix testing requires a family physician or Registered Dietitian to perform the testing. They will be able to provide the optimum benefit of this testing, as well as explain the findings and recommendations to you based on your unique genetic profile, and use this information to construct a meal plan that is right for your body.

Why should I get a Nutrigenomix test, and how will it benefit me?

This test will allow your Registered Dietitian to devise the most optimal meal plan for your unique genetic markers and body. By following the recommendations in this test report, your R.D. can skip the guessing game and instantly be aware of the foods and nutritional information to optimize the best diet for your needs.

What happens to my DNA test kit afterwards?

Your DNA test kit is stored in a secure facility, labelled only by a secure unique barcode (no names), which only your healthcare provider can match with a name. As new discoveries in the field of nutrigenomics are made, additional information may be added to our test reports and new panels with additional cutting-edge information could be available to you.

Who will have access to my results?

Only your healthcare provider will have access to your genetic test results. Only your healthcare professional will be able to link your kit’s barcode to your personal information. All genetic data is sent through a secure 256-bit encryption server.

How long does it take for me to get my results?

After your testing, it can take 2-3 weeks for your Registered Dietitian to get the results. Once received, a follow-up appointment is required to go over your results together.

Does my insurance cover Nutrigenomix?

Please check with our insurance provider regarding coverage. Some insurers may cover the cost of genetic testing through benefits or a health spending account. Some insurance providers may not cover this testing.
